About Us

  • A mission-driven ministry founded and sponsored by Sisters of Divine Providence

    Established as a nonprofit organization in 1994 with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Divine Providence Hospital on Pittsburgh’s North Side, Providence Connections strengthens families and enriches lives through comprehensive education and developmental opportunities for parents and children.

    History

    Driven to continue to provide some type of service to local residents following the sale of the hospital, the Sisters of Divine Providence undertook a needs assessment to identify primary social concerns of the area. The assessment revealed that the number of struggling single parents in the community – mothers in particular – was growing, and that these parents needed comprehensive support services in order to develop economic self-sufficiency.

    In an attempt to help meet these needs, the Sisters established Providence Family Support Center and designated single parents and their children the focus of their work, later expanding the mission to include entire families.

    The Center now serves over 400 local North Side families through child care services, before and after school care, family support, parent and adult education, in-home visitation and family counseling.

    Values

    As custodians of the mission, our values reflect the honor and appreciation we have for the heritage and vision of the Sisters of Divine Providence. Namely, we:

      • Accept the responsibility to conduct ourselves in an ethical manner, our actions and words, characterized by integrity and truth;
      • Respect the dignity of the human person, manifested in our self-respect, empathy and compassion for ourselves and for one another;
      • Demonstrate loyalty and commitment to the agency; and
      • Work to strengthen families and to enrich the lives of those whom we serve.
