Before & After School Child Care

  • Before & After School Programs

PFSC offers safe, secure care for school-age children from Kindergarten through fifth grade. Child care is available both before and after school and all day long on teacher in-service days, when schools are closed due to bad weather and during summer vacation. See Program Guide for restrictions.

A Day in the Program A typical day includes a healthy snack, homework assistance provided by staff and Duquesne University student tutors, and enrichment classes like art, music and science. Boys are given an opportunity to join Boy Scouts and girls in grades 3-5 can choose to be part of Girl Scouts or a Strong Women / Strong Girls group.

More time-intensive, structured activities are planned for school in-service days, including field trips to local attractions. Plus, on those occasions when there is a school weather delay, PFSC provides a light breakfast for your child and ensures that he or she is transported to school on time. Please see Program Guide for restrictions.

Our Staff Most PFSC staff members have earned a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, and are trained to use a school-age curriculum.

The staff works closely with parents and teachers to ensure the specific needs of each child are met. A questionnaire completed upon a child’s enrollment helps guide staff in determining which academic and social aspects are of the greatest concern and which, if any, will require special attention. Staff members are certified annually in CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross.
