About Us

  • A ministry founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence serving North Side families for 25 years.

    History

    In 1994, the Sisters of Divine Providence opened Providence Connections as a result of closing Divine Provident Hospital. Still wanting to maintain a connection and presence in the community, the sisters commissioned a community needs assessment and door-knocking campaign. During this campaign, the Sisters asked community members what services they felt were needed or were lacking in the area. Quickly it became apparent that the number of single mothers struggling to make ends meet was growing and that comprehensive support services were needed to develop economic and family self-sufficiency.

    The Sisters of Divine Providence responded by making North Side mothers and their children the focus of their work and began operating Providence Family Support Center and began offering case management services, family enrichment activities and events, as well as ongoing programming for parents through the Parent Education Program.

    Just two years after Providence Family Support Center opened its doors the need in the community for more comprehensive services grew. To meet the growing demand, Providence Connections established high-quality child care and early childhood education programs, including extended care hours, an after-school enrichment program for elementary school children, and a summer long day camp.

    Mission

    Providence Connections strengthens families and enriches lives through comprehensive education and developmental opportunities for parents and children.

    Vision

    As custodians of the mission, Providence Connections’ values reflect the honor and appreciation for the heritage and vision of the Sisters of Divine Providence. Namely, we:

    • Accept the responsibility to conduct ourselves in an ethical manner, our actions and words, characterized by integrity and truth;
    • Respect the dignity of the human person, manifested in our self-respect, empathy and compassion for ourselves and for one another;
    • Demonstrate loyalty and commitment to the agency; and
    • Work to strengthen families and to enrich the lives of those whom we serve.
