Pre-K Classroom

The Pre-K Classroom encourages children to engage in hands-on activities in order to build academic skills and develop a sense of accomplishment and responsibility. We focus on kindergarten readiness activities including:

• Attention Span
• Literacy skills
• Early Writing skills
• Early Math skills
• Listening skills
• Problem-solving skills
• Communication skills
• Creativity
• Social Skills
• Fine Motor Skills

When children enter Pre-K, we like to take the time to learn about each child and devise our instruction based on his/her individual needs. Some of the skills that make for a successful transition into Pre-K are:

• Being confident and ready to separate from parents.
• Follow 2-step directions.
• Some independent life skills such as toileting, putting on/taking off own clothes and cleaning up after themselves.
• Able to take turns, share and handle waiting for short periods of time.
• Retelling a simple story, rhyme or song.
• Using words to express him/herself and during conflict.
• Engage in activity and/or story for 5-10 minutes.
• Know basic colors and shapes.
• Able to count and sort items.
• Recognize some letters and numbers.
