  • Preschool Classroom at Providence Connections

    The preschool classroom provides active play and learning giving children many opportunities to practice new skills.  Refining basic concepts in preparation for more challenging learning experiences is also the focus.  A variety of themes and activities allow for the development of social and emotional skills.

    The Classroom

    What perspective parents need to know

    • We encourage families to have their children toilet trained and transitioning to underwear.
    • Independent skills such as dressing self, hanging coat up, walking in to the classroom independently
    • Should know beginning concepts of shapes, colors, and numbers

    What children should know before transitioning to the next classroom

    • We will be working on fine motor skills to help children get ready to start writing
    • We work on name recognition and spelling our names
    • How to properly use utensils and cleaning up after self
    • Self help skills
    • Following rules and listening skills
    • Math concepts and numeral recognition
    • Conflict resolution- using words to solve problems , and communicate feelings, needs and desires effectively
    • Show respect, kindness, patience, and love toward others

    Bridget Shephard
    Lead Teacher, Preschool Classroom
  • As a Lead Teacher in the Preschool Classroom, Bridget Shepherd brings a lifelong passion for education and over a decade of experience to her students. “I have been teaching for twelve years and I absolute love it,” she shares. “I always wanted to be a teacher since I was seven years old and when I graduated high school, I knew college for education was for me.”

    Bridget backs her enthusiasm with a strong academic foundation, noting, “I have my associates in education and my bachelor’s in liberal studies. I’m currently working on my bachelor’s in education.”

    Above all, she is deeply committed to the emotional and academic well-being of the children in her care.

  • “I want to help shape the minds of our future (kids) so I make sure I show up for my students everyday and let them know they are loved, safe, cared for and welcomed,” she explains. “I do this by creating a fun, loving and safe environment. Also, I greet the children with a smile on my face and I’m very engaged with their learning, not only is learning happening in my room but laughter and fun is happening in my room as well.”

    Matt Brown
    Assistant Group Supervisor
  • As the Assistant Group Supervisor for the Preschool Classroom, Matt Brown brings both extensive experience and formal expertise to early childhood education. A dedicated member of the Providence team, he shares, “I have been here at Providence for almost 15 years working with children ages 2 through school aged.”

    Matt’s approach is grounded in a strong educational foundation. “I currently have an Associate’s degree with a focus in child and family studies and a Child Development credential,” he notes. Whether guiding active play or fostering early literacy, he loves connecting with his students, explaining, “A few of my favorite activities to do with children is to play with them in the gym and read to them! I truly enjoy working with preschoolers and hope to build a positive relationship with your child!”
