Preschool Readiness Classroom

  • Young Toddler Classroom at Providence Connections

The Preschool readiness classroom provides structure, routine, and a variety of planned activities to meet the needs of a growing toddler. We facilitate a range of age-appropriate activities including: art, music, dramatic play, storytelling, and fine motor activities to improve dexterity and coordination. The day also yields scheduled gym and outdoor time to help build gross motor skills. Teachers and caregivers promote language development and understanding by using plenty of words and dialog, as well as, listening with intent. Overall, through our program, we do our best to teach children to be kind and to have respect for others, as well as, themselves. We exemplify this through social interactions and fair play.

    The Classroom

    What perspective parents should know

Our classroom works hard to build independence within all children. Students entering our classroom should be in Pull-ups and working on bathroom skills. We also spend time on practicing eating with utensils, drinking from a regular cup, washing hands, and sitting for a short period of time for stories and circle time. Our classroom thrives on building a strong foundation for Preschool; Letter, number, color, and shape recognition are all cognitive skills that we aid to begin developing. In addition, we spend a great deal of time establishing language skills through speech and song. We emphasize the need for using our words, to indicate our wants, needs, and feelings.

Goals we are working towards by the time the child transitions to the next classroom

As children move from our classroom to the Preschool room they need to be potty trained and self-sufficient in the bathroom. Each child should have a basic knowledge of letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. Additionally, children should be able to perform a variety of self-help skills, not limited to, getting dressed independently, hanging his/her coat up in the cubby, cleaning up, and communicating wants, needs, and feelings effectively.

    Tiffany Arlet
    Lead Teacher, Preschool Readiness Classroom
  • Tiffany brings a ton of heart, creativity, and local pride to the Preschool Readiness room. A “Pittsburgh ‘er’ through and through,” she is backed by a Bachelor’s Degree, an Elementary Education teaching certification, and “Over 15 years of experience working with children.” She has spent “13 years here at Providence” helping kids get ready for their next big steps.

A self-described “Tidy and Organized” teacher, Tiffany loves making her space engaging for the kids. “I bring my artistic ability, creativity, and love of crafts to the classroom within the activities/lessons I plan and to the physical layout of the room,” she explains.

  • At the core of her teaching is a beautiful philosophy: “I emphasize: learning through play, building a sense of self with confidence, growing independence with self-help skills, evolving social and emotional skills, and having an awareness of others with empathy. BE KIND ALWAYS.”

Outside of school, she stays just as busy! “I love cooking and baking!” she shares, adding, “I come from a large family, 4 siblings (very family oriented) … I’m also a mom of 1.”
