Pre-K Counts Classroom

  • Welcome to the Pre-K Counts classroom at Providence Connections! Pre-K Counts is a full-day, state-funded pre-kindergarten program providing comprehensive early education services to children between the ages of three and five.
Through an engaging, hands-on curriculum tailored to their unique progress, we focus on both academic and social growth to ensure they have the confidence and skills to easily transition into kindergarten.
  • What to Expect in Our Pre-K Counts Classroom

If you are looking for a nurturing, high-quality environment that will spark your child’s curiosity and build a lifelong love of learning, look no further. Our classroom will:

    • Provide Expert Instruction: Your child will be guided by teachers with the specific education and expertise required to teach young children.
    • Foster Comprehensive Growth: We use a curriculum that helps your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
    • Track Individual Progress: We regularly review your child’s progress to choose the teaching and learning activities that are best suited for them.
    • Support Transitions: We actively help you and your child adjust to Pre-K and prepare for a smooth transition to kindergarten.
    • Offer Small Class Sizes: Your child will have plenty of one-on-one time and focused attention.

    • Attention Span
    • Early Writing and Literacy Skills
    • Early Math Skills
    • Problem-solving Skills
    • Communication and Listening Skills
    • Creativity
    • Social Skills
    • Fine Motor Skills
    Skills for a Successful Transition

When children enter Pre-K, we take the time to learn about each child and adapt our instruction based on their individual needs. Some of the foundational skills we work on to make for a successful transition include:

    • Being confident and ready to separate from parents.
    • Following 2-step directions.
    • Practicing independent life skills (such as toileting, putting on/taking off clothes, and cleaning up).
    • Taking turns, sharing, and handling waiting for short periods.
    • Retelling a simple story, rhyme, or song.
    • Using words to express themselves and navigate conflicts.
    • Engaging in an activity or story for 5-10 minutes.
    • Knowing basic colors and shapes, as well as counting and sorting items.
    • Recognizing some letters and numbers.
